MY FAVORITE F_ _ _ _ WORD
Hi! I’m Nancy Swanton - THE DESIGN DOCTOR -
And i'm gonna get right to the point....the focal point!
I’m an interior designer with a different approach to design. I’m more about personal growth than pretty pictures. I’m all about using the science of design blended with the power of the Law of Attraction to
make your home a magnet to get everything you want.
I think of your home as a transmitting station. A transmitting station to the Universe. A physical structure that helps to telegraph who you are AND who you want to become directly to Source.
I am all about teaching you how to use design elements to raise your vibrational alignment to make you a MASTER MANIFESTOR.
One of the most important design tools you can use is the FOCAL POINT!
What is a Focal Point and why is it important?
Well, our minds are naturally very busy. There are so many interesting things to look at and think about!
I don’t know about you, but I’m easily distracted by shiny objects and bright colors! I’m kind of a human pinball! It’s pretty hilarious to go anywhere with me! Oooo look at this, LOOOK at THAT! This is true for all of us to some extent, some more than others. If we don’t have something to focus on, we tend to bounce off the walls mentally and our Monkey Mind takes over, creating instability and chaos.
Not a good message to send to the Universe.
The Universe thrives on consistency and ORDER!
It is super important to keep this in the forefront of your mind when creating your design! Intentionally creating something to focus on, generates stability, consistency and ORDER.
Most people only think about creating order when they are thinking about organizing and clearing out clutter. Personally, I can't function if things are too tidy! I need a bit of disorder to feel comfortable. I'm not as concerned about clutter as I am about setting your intentions. You don't have to live in a sterile vacuum to have order.
Right now, we are focused on creating order in your mind, setting your intentions and using your home as a way to communicate that intention. We are focused on using design tools for the purpose of creating energy and guiding that energy through your home directly to Source! We are bringing into focus your thinking about your personal goals and using design to get your there.
A Focal Point grounds your mind, your space and your energy. This creates balance, harmony and an overall sense of well-being. These are all things the Universe LUUUUVS! This important tool will help stabilize your mind and get you into vibrational alignment.
The Focal Point in one of the most important building blocks you can use to create
a strong foundation for your fabulous future.
Before we go too much further into the details of design, I want you to take a few minutes to think about your goals and what you want to attract and why. What message do you want to send to the Universe? Why is that important to you? Take the time to think about this, because once you get into vibrational alignment and start living in the Vortex, things are going to start coming to you faster than you could ever image! So, it's important that you rid your mind of all the things you don't have or don't want and focus on the things you DO WANT! The Universe delivers all that you are focused upon, the good and the contrasting.
YOUR REALITY IS YOUR CHOICE !
Take a few minutes and write down what you want to attract.
Be specific! Describe in great detail, using all of your senses to feel your newlife, taste your newlife, smell your newlife, hear your newlife and see your newlife. Think about what emotional connections you want in your newlife.
As you do this exercise, images of your newlife will start to form. Images of colors, textures, furniture, accessories even artwork!
Use those images to develop your design. You can keep them in your mind, or you can create a vision board to represent them. Vision boards work! So, if you want to, create one!
Now, we can begin to develop your design, using these images to manifest your reality!
There are Large Focal Points and Small Focal Points.
Usually, because we want to stabilize your environment and create consistency, there should only be one Large Focal Point in a room. Unless, you have a large open space where you have multiple functions in the same visual plane. In this instance, you will have the opportunity to direct attention in the direction of each functionality, by using multiple Large Focal Points.
In this open floor plan loft, the dining area is identified by Large Focal Point in the contrasting of the dark chairs against the stark white walls. Next, incorporating the second "living room" Large Focal Point, in the same space, by using a mid-tone grey and a grounding area rug to direct your attention to the living room area. Then further focusing your attention to the Small Focal Point of the arrangement on the coffee table. This keeps you engaged and experiencing the wholeness of the space.
Small Focal Points are important too! Our attention span is very short, so you can have numerous Small Focal Points in one room. Not so many that you end up creating chaos, but just enough to hold interest. This helps keep you interested and focused as you travel through the your home.
Use these Small Focal Points to create a treasure trail of visual triggers that guide your eye and the energy through your surroundings. Tell the story of your consciousness expanding toward your newlife vision and your connection to Source.
It's equally important that you give your eye and your mind a place to rest, so don't over do it!
A few examples of Small Focal Points are:
- A centerpiece on the coffee table
- Pillows on your bed
- A grouping of photographs
- A pile of books on a side table.
Even a small grouping of furniture can be considered a Small Focal Point, if the Large Focal Point is larger.
NATURAL LARGE FOCAL POINT
Sometimes the Large Focal Point is obvious, like a fireplace. Sometimes you have to create it, forcing the eye to focus on what YOU want. You can encourage the energy in the direction of your desires with powerful visual triggers. Use the colors you imagine in your newlife, use the textures, the aromas, the sounds and flavors that imagine in your newlife to stimulate your vibration toward your newlife vision.
To find your Large Focal Point, you’ll need to be aware of the natural strengths of your space. Every space has strengths and weaknesses. It's up to you to find the strength in your space........or create it!
Take a moment to think about your strengths and weaknesses.
This is a terrific example of a Natural Large Focal Point. Originally, there was no hearth at the base of this fireplace. Although the fireplace was a huge Natural Large Focal Point, it created tremendous instability in the space, because it wasn't grounded.
It felt that the monolithic Focal Point was gonna come crashing F____ing down on your head!
Fortunately, we were able to find the same stone, build the hearth and stabilized this beautiful Natural Large Focal Point, creating a real attention getter!
If you don’t have a Natural Large Focal Point, there are a million ways you can create one.
- You can paint your fireplace a bold color!
- If you want your view to be your Large Focal Point, you can put bold window treatments to frame it.
- You can create a seating area like in the example above with the yellow chairs.
- Place dynamic artwork in a place that demands attention.
The most important part of all this is determining where that Large Focal Point SHOULD BE and maximizing it!
FORCING THE ISSUE - FORCED FOCAL POINT
Some times the Natural Large Focal Point is actually a distraction from your desires. So, again, think about what you’re wanting in your newlife. Identify where you want that to happen in the room. Based on the type of activities you want happening in the space, and... Where you've determined the natural strengths of your space are and..... What you are wanting to attract... You will have a clear vision of where your Large Focal point is or should be.
Recently, I was working with a woman who was wanting more love in her life. She had an "A Frame" attic bedroom with an attached little covered porch sitting area that overlooked her beautiful garden! The space was so darling, but it had lots of awkward angled walls and weird rooflines. And, like many of us, her bedroom had become more of a storage space than a love nest! Her bedroom was an afterthought.... After being single for over a decade, she felt that part of her life was over.
Plus, she had less than $200 for her budget! It was a challenge!
The porch door is directly opposite the entry to the rooms, so as you walked into the room, you were drawn by the Natural Large Focal Point of the porch door! It was very inviting, but it invited you to go outside....not snuggle up in bed! All the energy went in one door and out the other!
The Natural Large Focal Point, the porch door, was actually a distraction from her primary desire to have more love in her life.
So, we minimized the impact of the door by painting the door frame, walls and ceiling all the same color. Then we draped sheer panels over the door and extended them about 12" on either side of the door. This maintained the light and created a little mystery to the bedroom porch, but the porch door became far less important in the room. Then we removed the weird angled wall across from her bed ($150 cost) that was another huge distraction from her intended Focal Point, her love nest!
Then we lowered and centered her bed, added some mood lighting and created a romantic nest of texture and scented sensuality.
It was a magnet for love!
Within 3 months, has met the man of her dreams ! The wedding is this October!!
THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN'T DO, BE OR HAVE WHEN YOU ARE IN ALIGNMENT
YOU CAN DO THIS!
Since you're doing this yourself, only you can determine where that grounding, "desire focused" Large Focal Point should be. I have a lot of faith in you! I know you can do this! You know what's important to you more than I ever could! YOU KNOW YOU!!!
To get you percolating in the right direction, here are a few general locations for Large Focal Points based on what you might be wanting.
- If you want more love, or better sleep, your Large Focal Point will most likely be your bed.
- If you are wanting more money, your Large Focal Point will most likely be in your living room or office, or even your entry. Nothing attracts money like a grand entry! You're gonna feel like a million bucks everytime you walk through the door. Of course, it doesn't have to cost a lot, to look like a lot.
- If you're wanting more social life and friends, maybe your family room or dining room will "hold" that vision for you.
Each space will have it's own Large Focal Point, that point of attraction that tells you and the Universe "THIS IS HOW I LIVE"
"I DESERVE EVERY DROP OF JOY THE UNIVERSE PROVIDES"
Once you have identified Natural Large Focal Point or created your Large Focal Point, your design can radiate from that point. That my friend is a lesson for another day!!
Your immediate goal is to create a grounding point, whether large or small, to stabilize your thoughts and maintain your focus. This keeps the vibrational pathways open, which allows you to send a clear message to the Universe, “THIS IS WHAT I WANT"!
I AM READY TO RECEIVE
The message is received and the Universe delivers!
IT IS VIBRATIONAL LAW!
HERE'S WHAT YOU LEARNED
- Focal Points calm your mind and create balance and harmony
- The Universe LUUUVS ORDER
- Setting your intentions before you design helps deliver your desires
